3RD BIOTECHNOLOGY VENTURE SUMMIT SLATED JAN. 10-12
04-January-2007 Manila Bulletin

Hybridigm Consulting, in cooperation with the Ateneo Graduate School of Business, is holding the third annual Philippine Biotechnology Venture Summit with the theme, "Getting Investors for Your Technology" from January 10-12, 2007 at the auditorium of the Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell.

The Summit is the Philippines' pioneering and premier conference on biotechnology, the 2007 edition of the Summit provides in-depth coverage and discussions of the most vital topics in biotech entrepreneurship and investment. The Summit will also teach participants to avoid common startup mistakes and show them the value of innovation.

During the course of the 2007 Summit, over 20 speakers renowned in their respective fields will discuss vital areas in biotech entrepreneurship, including Richard Cruz of the Asian Institute of Management; Johanna Klein of the ADB; Dr. Leodevico Ilag and Dr. Jocelyn Ng, co-founders of Xerion Pharmaceuticals; and Maoi Arroyo, CEO of Hybridigm Consulting. Participants will have a Summit-exclusive opportunity to interact with venture capitalists. It also showcases the latest technologies and valuable investment opportunities such as environment-friendly detergents, biofuels, and biodegradable plastics.

The Summit is supported by Ayala Foundation-Technology Business Incubator, the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship, the Philippine Venture Capital Investment Group, and a host of our top universities.

Experts agree that the Philippines has incredible potential for a biotechnology industry, being home to a breathtaking variety of plants, animals and microorganisms. There are products on the market that capitalize on this; virgin coconut oil, ampalaya extract, and papain are but a few. The groundwork for one of the biggest biopharmaceutical success story in the US, Prialt Ziconotide, was laid by Filipino scientists; more products are in development by various small entrepreneurs and individual scientists.

The key is networking: bringing together scientists with brilliant ideas, entrepreneurs able to work with and market those ideas, and investors who understand the potential of those ideas.
