Corn & Potential Alternate Host Plants of the Asian
Corn Borer
This brochure highlights the findings
of a study on potential alternate host plants of Asian corn
borer that was conducted by Dr. Merdelyn Caasi-Lit, University
Researcher at the Institute of Plant Breeding of the University
of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The results were
obtained from a survey in 3 major corn growing areas in the
Philippines, namely, Bukidnon, South Cotabato and Isabela. These
potential alternate host plants may serve as natural refugia. Specs:

Corn and Trichogramma
The fifth of a series of Bt corn brochures,
this interesting three-fold brochure was published with the expertise
of Dr. Pio Javier of the National Crop Protection Center of UPLB
behind it. The results shown in this brochure says that more Trichogramma (a
miniature flying insect highly beneficial to corn & other
plants in controlling pests) and other natural enemies of the
Asiatic corn borer (ACB)
were found in Bt corn plants suggesting that Bt corn is not harmful
to natural enemies of ACB. Specs:

this very informative two-fold brochure was produced hand-in-hand
with Ms. Lyn A Esteves of the Bureau of Postharvest Research &
Extension of the Department of Agriculture, Republic of the Philippines.
This brochure presents results of a local study conducted in Cauayan,
Isabela and Kibawe, Bukidnon in order to assess the potential of
Bt corn in reducing mycotoxin contamination.
