Int’l conference tackles knowledge management in agri-biotech
Asian countries have shown tremendous increase in crop productivity as agricultural biotechnology serves as one of the significant tools in spurring economic growth, and enhancing environmental and social benefits. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported that most of the biotech/GM crops, encompassing the second decade of its commercialization, are being developed and expected to be marketed in the Asian region. The initiatives in capacity building and in communicating and exchanging knowledge on agricultural biotechnology are credited for its unprecedented adoption from North to South. read
 
 
Bt eggplant researchers and local collaborators gain knowledge on biosafety and risk comm
A training-workshop on Biosafety Regulations and Risk Communication for Researchers and Collaborators of Fruit and Shoot Borer Resistant (FSBR) Eggplant Project was successfully conducted on 14 – 16 September 2009 at Umali Auditorium, SEARCA, College, Laguna. This training-workshop was an initial activity on capacity building and technology acceptance initiatives of the FSBR eggplant (also known as Bt eggplant) project in the proposed 8 multilocation field trial sites namely, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Iloilo, Leyte, Davao City and North Cotobato. read

SEARCA BIC joins UP Cells in bringing biology to higher level
The SEARCA Biotechnology Information Center (BIC) linked up with the University of the Philippines Cell Biological Society (UP Cells) in celebration of the ‘SIHAY 2009: A Month-long Appreciation of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology through Intellectual Competitiveness, Youth Empowerment and Community Service’ held last February 2009. The SIHAY 2009 was encompassed with biology seminars, gift-giving activity, exhibit, course orientation, and CELLpukan ng Talino at Galing, a quiz contest participated by biology students. read
